1. MQIPOD

This service is available on MqPro only. With MqIPOD running MqPro is able to connect to IP Offices around the world, search them, and bring the hits back to be merged with hits from other offices and from Marquesa's own databases. MqIPOD relies on two programs MqAdmin and WebEngine together with data on a Marquesa server which contains profiles of each of the IPOD Databases. At the time of writing there are fourteen IPOD databases which may be searched and others are being added.

The MqAdmin program monitors, logs and controls access to the databases using a license key. MqAdmin invokes Webengine.exe which downloads profiles from a Marquesa server, accesses the databases, performs the searches and retrieves the hits.

As new IPOD databases are added, they will appear on the New Examination - Standard Details screen which appears after logging in to MqPro. There is normally no need to install new versions of MqPro etc. when new databases are added but if an IP Office interface is radically different from what has gone before then new code may be required.

2. Installing MQIPOD on a server

Note: these steps need to be performed in order.

1) Install MqPro on the server. This needs to be done even if MqPro isn't needed on the server as it installs other files that will be needed. - Do not select the 'Launch MQPRO Internet Client' option.

2) Install MqAdmin/WebServer on the server, you can get a username and password from Marquesa on 01647 434100 now if you like. - Do not select the 'Start MQServer'option.

3) Edit MqAdmin.ini (in the Windows directory)

- Change the IP address part of the NamePort line from 127.0.0.1 to the IP address of the server.

- Eg. if the server had an IP address of 192.168.1.19, you want NamePort=192.168.1.19:13573

4) Edit MqWebEngine.ini (in the Windows directory):

- Change the IP address part of the NamePort line from 127.0.0.1 to the IP address of the server.

- Eg. if the server had an IP address of 192.168.1.19, you want NamePort=192.168.1.19:13588

Note: do not change the port number (after the ':'). These values must be unique.

5) Start MqAdmin/MqServer on the server.

6) Add a license:

6a) Double click the 'Marquesa 2000 Administrator' in the system tray

6b) License->Update->Next

6c) Liaise with Marquesa to get a license code, usually best done by email admin@marquesa.co.uk

7) In MqSystem.ini, which you will find in the windows directory, there is a line starting Local1= that you will need to make available when setting up each client machine. - to make this easy you may want to copy this to a location that is accessible by all of the clients.

For each client machine:

8) Install MqPro. - Do not select the 'Launch MQPRO Internet Client' option.

9) Edit MqSystem.ini (in the windows directory)

- Add the Local1= line from the server into the [Repository] section of the clients MqSystem.ini.

10) Run MqPro - the POD's should now be available.

3. Advantages of the MQPRO client

The client program is not only significantly faster and easier to use than the web browser interface, it has capabilities not available through the web browser:

  • Save and restore searches
  • Configure printing and reporting to document formats
  • Automatically design searches for a mark
  • Click through to web systems of originating patent & trade mark offices
  • Perform caveat and watch searches

4. Unable to connect to remote repository

This message occurs when MQPRO cannot make access to the Marquesa administration system over the network. This error occurs when you are not currently connected to the internet, or if your PC firewall or your company firewall is not configured correctly (see below).

5. Firewall configuration

For MQPRO to gain access to the Marquesa databases, it must connect to the Marquesa database administration system and search engines over the internet. This may involve a connection from your PC through your company's firewall. However, it is common precaution that all unused firewall ports are kept closed to prevent malicious access to the company's computers. Thus by default it may be that MQPRO cannot communicate through your firewall. Configuration of the firewall to allow MQPRO to work is simple and safe. When you open ports on the firewall as listed below, only connections through those ports to Marquesa servers are allowed. Opening these ports does not allow any access except from MQPRO and to Marquesa's servers. These are the ports and addresses which need opening:

TCP Port Numbers
[Outbound]
IP Addresses
13573
13574
13575
13576
13577
13578
13579
13580
13581
13582
217.158.99.84
212.21.97.17

The MQPRO installation comes with a program to test your configuration and report any problems.

6. Link to web administration

The MQPro Web Administration link tries to start up the default web browser on your system to display your account details. If you do not have a default web browser configured, this will fail. Here are instructions for configuring a number of browsers:

Internet Explorer
If you want Internet Explorer to be your default browser, open up IE and choose Tools->'Internet Options...'->Programs. Then make sure that the 'Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser' is checked and then press OK. Next time IE starts up it will ask you if you want to make it the default browser (if it isn't already). Answering Yes to this should do the trick.
Mozilla
In Mozilla, choose Edit->Preferences...->Navigator. Then press the 'Set Default Browser' button.
Firefox
In Firefox, choose Tools->Options->General. Then press the 'Set Default Browser' button.
Opera
In Opera, choose File->Preferences->Default Application and tick 'Check if Opera is default browser on startup'. Then close and re-open Opera and accept offer to make Opera your default browser.
