Special Notice for the AU Australia PTO service

As the name suggests, Patent Office Direct draws directly on databases provided by Patent and Trademark offices across the world. The Marquesa service connects to these databases so that you can make searches within the MQPro client. This makes it much more convenient to search multiple PTO sites compared to using a web browser. In Marquesa PTO direct, searches are executed in parallel and results are combined into a single summary screen and report. However, these PTO services vary in their searching capabilities, and none match the sophistication of the search engines provided on Marquesa's own databases. Also, what mark details are displayed are dictated by what information is provided by the PTO. On the other hand, this information is obtained directly and immediately from the PTO sites, and is as up to date as possible.

Current limitations of the AU Direct service

Search types:	only word type "1. containing any of these words/patterns" can be selected. Performs an approximate word match automatically using the IPO's own system.
Search characters:	only the '-' search character may be used ('*' and '?' are not available).
Search combinations:	"And" and "But not" may not be used in searches.
Enquiries:	these may be made by application number or registration number.
Classes:	there are no limits on classes.
Watching and Caveats:	these are not available.
Results display:	wordmark, icon, class and status are displayed. An application number or registration number is shown.
PTO click through:	this is not yet available.
Other limitations:	a maximum of 1000 marks can be returned in any one search. This is a limitation of the PTO service provider.
