about the marquesa searching system
These are the key characteristics of the Marquesa Searching System. Click on any item to get a more detailed description.
Search across multiple databases in parallel
Marquesa trade mark and domain databases are formatted and indexed similarly, so that multiple databases can be searched using any of the available indexes with just one click. The searches are executed in parallel using multiple search engines, to minimise the time spent searching, and the results are brought together into a single summary list.
See the databases page for a list of currently available databases.
Search for marks on basis of similar words
Since the main use of Marquesa is to search for marks on the basis of the form of words used, Marquesa provides a rich set of mechanisms for matching words:
Marquesa processes word mark spelling to accommodate most of the strange formatting found in mark applications, for example 'A+B&C' −> '&','+','A','AB','ABC','B','BC','C'.
Marquesa also has the unique "word finder" tool, which allows you to find similar words in use without actually executing a search.
Search for marks having similar device images
Device images in Marquesa are coded using the Vienna classification. You can search the classification list and find images matching any or all of a set of categories.
Search using other mark properties
As well as word mark and device category, Marquesa allows you to constrain searches by: goods class, status, application date, application number, proprietor name and agent name. You can also find marks according to words used in their goods specification or whether the mark has been added or updated in the past week or month.
Web browser and Internet client interfaces
To access Marquesa you can log-in to our search system through this web site, and enter searches through your browser, viewing and printing the results using the facilities provided by your browser. However, uniquely, Marquesa also offers a special Windows application called the Marquesa Internet Client that runs on your PC as a normal application and makes direct contact with Marquesa search engines. This gives you an easier-to-use interface of considerably greater power and flexibility. The MQPRO Internet Client is available free of charge to all Marquesa subscribers. You can get the latest version from the downloads page. Read a comparison of the two systems on the frequently asked questions page.
Automatic search design
Marquesa's automatic search design facility builds a simple set of searches appropriate for a pre-application clearance search for a simple wordmark. You enter the word mark, a list of primary and secondary classes, and Marquesa suggests a number of searches in a four section report: (i) identical words in used in marks found in primary classes, (ii) identical words used in marks found in secondary classes, (iii) pattern matches to marks found in primary classes, and (iv) other similar marks found in primary classes. You can add, delete and change any of its suggestions. You can then execute each search, view the found marks in each section keeping any relevant to your application, then print or report your results. Easy!
Clear presentation on screen and in reports
Marquesa databases are not just raw information crudely formatted for display and printing. We take the sources of trade mark data and identify common fields across databases, so that display and printing looks similar regardless of the information source.
Marquesa added value to databases
As trade mark information flows in from PTOs to our databases, we monitor new applications, changes in status and changes to the detail of marks. This allows us to present a history of recent changes to each mark in addition to the current information from the PTO. It also means that you can search for marks that have changed in the last week, or new applications within the last month, etc. A Marquesa caveat search allows you to check a list of marks against recent changes to track the development of applications week by week. A Marquesa watch search allows you to run a stored search over and over on just new applications.
Priced per search not per view
When you use Marquesa you pay for the search, not for viewing the details of marks. This means that you can perform enquiries by application number for no charge and you can view, save and print trade mark details as much as you like. You just pay a low fee each time you use the Marquesa indexes to find a set of marks. And you can even have an "unlimited" subscription which allows you to perform as many searches as you like for a fixed annual fee. See our pricing schedule.
Once you sign up for an account, details of the status of your account are only a click away from MQPRO or your Web browser. You can see exactly how many searches you have done, and you can associate searches with particular jobs or customers to help you with your own company internal billing. Marquesa will bill you monthly in arrears if your usage is above a minimum amount.
Integrated access to PTO web sites
Most Patent and Trade Mark offices have their own web sites. This allows you access to the most up-to-date information about any mark (of course we aim to keep Marquesa's copy of each database as up to date as the PTO web sites, and usually we have more information about a mark than is available on the public sites). To make comparison with the PTO site easy, and for checking trade mark data when you need additional verification, Marquesa allows you to view the web details for any mark from the respective PTO web site with just a mouse click on the MQPRO details window. You can even compare their web site data with ours.
Put Marquesa databases on your corporate network
For maximum speed and minimum price per search, you can hold your own copies of Marquesa trade mark databases and search engines on your own corporate network. You'll need a Windows server and lots of disk space (about 5GB per database). Our database synchronisation service MQSync works at night to ensure your database is updated when Marquesa databases are updated on our servers. Contact the sales department for a quotation.
Search many IP Office databases and merge the results with results from Marquesa databases
There are many IP Office databases available for online searching. Eventually all of these will be accessible seamlessly to MqPro users enabling speedy world-wide searching on accurate and up-to-date data. At the time of writing 14 such databases are available.
